Contest rules

Come to Finland Publishing (CTF), Visit Rovaniemi, Arktikum, Lapland Hotels, Grafia and the advertising agency SEK are collaborating to find a travel poster for Finnish Lapland and are therefore announcing a poster contest. The contest is open for everyone, but it's mainly aimed for professionals such as graphic designers and designers, illustrators and artists.

General

All contributions must be delivered no later than January 4, 2018 by file transfer to poster2018(at)cometofinland.fi

Contest terms:

  • The size of the poster has to be 706 x 1006 mm. The poster shall be delivered as a ready-to-print pdf or tiff file (withouth crop marks) in the CMYK color profile FOGRA27. Resolution: 300 dpi. If chosen as one of the ten finalists the contestant also have to send in the same poster in the size 506 x 706 mm.
  • The poster has to be left unsigned, however with a possibility to be signed later. The poster should have a title. The title as well as the name of the artist should be included when the poster is sent to julius@cometofinland.fi. The names of the contestants will not be disclosed to the jury before the winners of the contest have been chosen.
  • The poster should be a graphic illustration or a collage. Photographs as such are not approved.
  • The poster should be an invite to come to the Finnish Lapland and have a text that can be used in different languages or be multilingual. The slogan in the poster can be "Come to Lapland – Finland". Other slogans can, however, be used as well. The words ”Lapland” and ”Finland" must be used in the slogan or be visible on the poster.
  • The contestant is fully responsible for owning the copyright of his/her contribution to the contest. By participating he/she therefore confirms that the artwork does not in any way infringe on the copyright of anybody else, and the contestant thereby takes legal responsibility for the contribution.
  • All contributions must be delivered no later than January 4, 2018.
  • It is only possible to participate with one contribution per contestant.
  • Information about the contest is available in eight languages but any questions can only be answered in English, Finnish or Swedish.
  • All contestants must agree not to share or distribute in any way their contribution to the contest before March 1, 2018 when the results of the contest are published.
  • The winner, the runner-up and the honorary award recipients will be personally notified. The rest of the contestants are asked to check the information on our websites cometofinland.fi and myfinlandposter.com.
  • By entering the competition the contestant agrees to all the terms and conditions of the contest.

Contest conditions:

If Come to Finland Publishing chooses so, the company has the right (but not the obligation) to use the work of the ten finalists as a part of any future poster exhibition. No separate royalty will be paid for this right.

The ten contributions selected for the finals undertakes to adapt the work to any other size in cases Come to Finland so wish.

Come to Finland Publishing also owns the exclusive copyrights to produce printed materials (such as postcards, posters, wooden cards etc.) of any of the ten finalists to the contest. If a finalist has not been contacted by Come to Finland Publishing within six months from the contest deadline (that is July 4, 2018) the copyrights will automatically be transferred back to the contestant i.e. the artist of the poster.

If Come to Finland chooses to produce products based on any art work that reached the final in the competition, a separate standard agreement will be made with the contestant and a royalty fee will be paid based on Come to Finland Publishing’s standard agreements. Any such agreement must be presented to the artist on July 4, 2018 at the latest. Any participant can obtain a copy of the standard agreement beforehand by contacting julius@cometofinland.fi. By participating in the poster contest My Finland Poster the contestants agree to that their art work can, if their work reach the final ten, and if Come to Finland Publishing chooses so, be used according to the above mentioned standard agreement.

The winner, the runner-up and the honorary award recipients are disclosed to media on March 1, 2018.

Come to Finland Publishing reserves the right to, with the consent of the authors, alter a contribution to the contest if it will be used in the production of products, e.g. if the product’s dimensions differ from the poster’s dimensions.

A person in close relation to one or several jury members cannot participate in the contest.

Visit Rovaniemi is entitled to use the ten selected works in their digital marketing of their own brand and events. 

Come to Finland also has the right to use the ten selected works and the works covered by the royalty contract in its digital business. The aim is that the artist's name is mentioned whenever possible.

How the winners are selected

The jury will assemble immediately after the contest deadline January 4, 2018 to appoint ten posters that will qualify for the finals. The jury will not know who is behind what work.

The jury selection is final.

The jury consists of visual professionals from Come to Finland, Arktikum, Grafia, Visit Rovaniemi and SEK:

Come to Finland: Magnus Londen, Poster hunter

Grafia: Marika Maijala, Illustrator

Arktikum: Tuija Alariesto, Exhibition curator

SEK: Sami Kelahaara, Creative director

Visit Rovaniemi: Kaisa Heiskari, Marketing Designer

 

After the ten posters are selected, the general public can vote for their finalist favorites via myfinlandposter.com and cometofinland.fi or through the organizers' Facebook pages.

The ten finalists will also be displayed for voting at the the Arktikum Museum in Rovaniemi, and at the Travel Fair in Helsinki in January 2018. By participating in the contest all contenders accept that their poster might be displayed, without compensation, at these venues.

There's only one vote per person. The organizers have the right to invalidate the votes if abuse is revealed.

The work among the finalists that receive the most votes will be the appointed winner. The second most votes gives a second place, and then three honorable mention will follow in order of decreasing number in votes.

The organizers commit themselves to respecting the outcome of the public vote. If there is obvious abuse of the voting, the organizer has the option to reject the suspected fraudulent votes.

The end result of the contest and the vote is definitive and can not be appealed.

Prizes

The winner:

• 2000 € in cash (taxable income).

• The winner also gets a week long trip to Finnish Lapland for two! (not exchangable for cash). Included is the trip from Helsinki to Lapland and hotel accommodation for two in April-October 2018.

• The poster can in the future be a part of the travel exhibition Come to Finland - Paradise Calling. 

• The poster might become part of the product assortment of Come to Finland Publishing (in that case Come to Finland Publishing will contact the author of the poster within six months from the contest deadline).

Runner-up:

The runner-up will recieve a Come to Finland product package, that will be delivered to the prizewinner. The value of the product package is approx. 300 €.

The poster can in the future be a part of the travel exhibition Come to Finland - Paradise Calling.

The poster might become part of the product assortment of Come to Finland Publishing (in that case Come to Finland Publishing will contact the author of the poster within six months from the contest deadline).

Honorary Awards:

The poster can in the future be a part of the travel exhibition Come to Finland - Paradise Calling.

The poster might become part of the product assortment of Come to Finland Publishing (in that case Come to Finland Publishing will contact the author of the poster within six months from the contest deadline).

The prizes can not be exchanged for something else.
